  Oh My!! This little SSD might be tiny and lightweight but don’t let that fool you, it packs one heck of a punch!!! I purchased the Emtec X200 256GB version of this device at Walmart thinking it would come in handy since I currently use a 1TB Seagate External Hard Drive and a few thumb drives of various sizes. With the fact that my 1TB Seagate could fail me at anytime since it has moving parts and thumb drives are pilling up around the house I wanted to try out my first external SSD. These little beauties are notoriously expensive for even the smallest GB size and up until yesterday I couldn’t bring myself to drop a pile of money since my other storage practices had been working. When I saw the $45 price tag on this device I had to purchase it and try it out.  First off the brand is something I have never heard of. Honestly, who’s heard of Emtec before? I realize I covered some of this a couple of weeks back but I just felt the need to go further into the whole idea of podcasting.  For quite a while I thought podcasting made zero sense. I was always like why would anyone want to be a podcaster when they could be a YouTuber? I was kinda on the same page as radio hosting. Why be a DJ or radio host when you could be on TV? It wasn’t until I tried my hand at podcasting until I was hooked on it just as much as I was at making a YouTube video. Podcasting is so much fun!   Living in rural West Virginia means that for most people a cell signal anywhere close to home is only a dream. Living anywhere in West Virginia means a cell signal is either a drive away or a signal drop is the same story.  For me I live out a back road or as we call it out the holler. As I mentioned last week this means I have to use Hughsenet internet service. The fact that this type of internet is spotty at best means I need to rely more on my cell signal. In comes the Wilson weBoost. This is a device that magnifies any type of cell signal out of your home with a antenna and allows you to run it into the house via cables. Inside is a control center that mounts on the wall and an inside antenna.   By using this device shown in the video above I have managed to make and receive calls as well as surf the internet on a good day.   Oh my gosh, Don’t get me started on Hughesnet. This company does provide a much needed service to people who live in rural areas but they do an awful job of it. If you work online, go to school online, run any type of website or youtube channel, then prepare for a long and tedious task. It takes Hughesnet a long time to do these tasks. Sometimes you may even have to restart the process multiple times.  To be just honest I do need to say again, they DO provide a needed service. They’re more of a last effort to get online sort of thing. I have looked and looked for a new provider. It is just simply not possible to get any other provider where I live. Hughesnet is my only choice at the moment. I have even tried to find a cell carrier that offers service where I live and found nothing that offers the strong enough service to upload videos or my podcast.  Ok so keep in mind that if you do have to sign up with Hughesnet then there are a few things to consider.   Oh boy, this is just what I have wanted to do in a long time. Yes I have a youtube channel and a blog, but I want to do something more. Starting a podcast is a fun little project. It’s almost like you are taking the time to run a radio station and broadcast just you. Doing this is a just another project of love and passion. By using the tech that I already have just like millions of other folks out there, I have created the official DnicholsonTV podcast called Tech and Stuff. Let me explain how.  By doing a few internet searches I found Podomatic in a review site about podcasting for free. I went and downloaded the app and visited the website. After a good look at the app and website I decided I would give it a try. Of course I was in no way a professional but I feel that my first show came out OK.   The Willful Smartwatch is the best Apple alternative that I have found. This watch may not have every feature that a Fitbit or Apple Watch has but what it does have it does well. I can check messages from social media, receive text messages, check my heart rate, monitor sleep patterns, play my Apple Music, skip songs, and of course check the time. So I feel that what this watch does do is enough for my needs. There is NO App Store to download any new features but it does work with both iOS and Android. The Tzumi LED Light Bar from Walmart can be the party favor you’ll buy this Halloween. The light bar runs on electricity and comes with a remote control to activate all the features the light bar can do. Each function makes the colors change in flashing mode, strobing mode, smooth mode, or steady mode. Not only would this light bar be an awesome party favor but you can use it year round to decorate your room, desk, or office.
