Can an iPad Replace a Laptop

So I have the original M1 iPad Pro. It’s a 12.9 inch. I’ve been using it to surf the web, watch videos, write in my journal, check email, and now go to school. It’s been very good at doing all of these things. Of course my M1 iPad Pro isn’t a MacBook. It’s more of a tablet than a laptop. It is considered Apple’s convertible device. It can be used as both a tablet and then add a keyboard and trackpad and you have a laptop-like device.   Some people don’t think that the iPad can actually do what a laptop can. Maybe there’s a few things that the iPad can’t do but it can do most everything. I’ve been using my iPad as my main device for years now. There was only one time that I absolutely had to use my MacBook and that was for a textbook for school. It was only available on “Bookshelf” for a real full fledged operating system. The iPad unfortunately runs on iPadOS which is a spinoff from iOS used on the iPhone. These are both mobile operating systems.  I’ve been reading that you can now

Blogging

Image
Is blogging dead? Is there a future in blogging? I don’t have the answers to these questions. I don’t even know what blogging platform is the best to use. I write on blogger. It isn’t the fanciest website but it works for me. I get a free site, unlimited storage, I can upload my YouTube videos directly onto the blog page, and it just works. I don’t know what else to say about it.  There is one question that I found interesting about blogging. People are asking if you can blog from an iPad? I do. I may not be the best writer or the biggest blogger out there. I may not have the best website and the most views but I do write and upload to a website. Things that I like about blogging from an iPad are ease of use, and built in camera. I don’t use the blogger app, I just go to the website. I’ve never downloaded the Wordpress apps either. All I do is go to the blogger site and write.  I’m not a fancy kind of guy but I do love Apple Products very much. My idea of a great time is visiting the

Can an iPad Replace My Computer

Image
What a question and also hard to believe its still a question. The latest iPads and accessories are built to be an alternative to the tradition computer or clamshell laptop. These devices are fast, powerful, and efficient machines with real work capabilities.  So why all the fuss? Those who don't believe are those who are tied to a specific type of software that can't be used on iPad. But don't worry, the software we are speaking of is for creative professionals and coding. For the majority of us this doesn't come into play at all and shouldn't be a factor in our decision. iPads can be a true traditional laptop or computer replacement for 99% of the population today.  These machine can be used for all types of office work, most types of creative work, and any type of leisure activity thrown at them. The iPad is just as capable as any Chromebook or budget laptop, as well as most middle tier laptops on the market today, possibly beating out some top tier laptops alon

Is The 2020 iPad Pro a Laptop Replacement

Image
I recently went out to my local iPad and iPhone store (US Cellular) with the intent to purchase the iPad Air 3rd generation but found myself leaving with the latest and greatest Apple tablet available. Now I’m not sure how this happened except for my unquestionable, unquenchable, and undeniable desire  to buy Apple products. I will admit that I LOVE Apple. Some people watch football, others get tattoos, while some love cars, me, I’m an Apple guy. My wife says I’m addicted and I have to admit, the argument is leaning in her favor. However, the new iPad Pro of the year 2020 is at first glance a device of beauty. Like the 2018 iPad we have a more squared off edge look and rounded corners. The pencil again charges magnetically while not in use and the ASK 2020 is available and works fine on the 2018 also. Of course you could spring for the new magic floating keyboard for a bit over $300 (I did NOT) so the device sits elevated above the keyboard. Just a hint here but the 2018 iPad Pro wil

IPad Pro For Video Creation

Image
Looking back at the post about iPad Pro use for creatives I decided to take a stronger look into iMovie. Since even a $300-$400 entry level iPad can run iMovie without any trouble and this software is free, anyone can be creative on a budget. The software comes with some great effects for creating movies, presentations, trailers, and more. The titles effects and chroma key are easy to learn and use as well as the interface is user friendly to navigate. The iPad comes with the Apple iWork Suite of software like Pages, Numbers. and Keynote. These are all equivalents to the Office Suite form Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. However, many don’t realize that Apple also gives users the creative apps of GarageBand and iMovie for free as well. Buying and iPad for under $400 and having all this great software including the updates, iOS now known as iPadOS is a great value. Today using all this software including mouse support and keyboard with an Apple Pencil truly makes a huge differ

Premium Music Service Review

Recently I have had the experience to try an old app that has been a fan favorite for a long time. Before I give it away I will say that it’s a music app and it gives a free trial for new users that wish to try out the premium features. This app has over 40 million titles on it and gives users the opportunity to download playlists and songs for offline listening. This app also gives users the opportunity to listen or stream online radio stations of different artists or music genres. No its not Apple Music, Spotify, or even iheartradio, it is in fact Pandora.  I know you figured I would be all about Apple Music and nothing else, right? Well, you figured wrong. Yes I did give Apple Music the free trial and found that I really enjoyed the app. I actually missed my Apple Music for the downloaded songs and huge selection of music for what ever mood I was in. I missed the easy playlists selections and the ease of use overall, until I found Pandoras premium service.  I actually just

Apple Keynote March 27, 2018

Image
Apple Keynote March 27, 2018 Today, March 27, 2018 Apple announced a new iPad! A few things seem clear to me about this particular announcement. One thing that sticks out is that Apple is really pushing the iPad. On Apples website we see a picture of the new iPad in gold with an Apple Pencil lying in front of it. The caption for the picture says “Like a computer. Unlike any computer” (Apple, 2018). The story goes on the explain that if the computer had been invented today, then it would be an iPad. It seems that everyone was right, Apple wants to faze out the Mac line and push more mobile devices.           The new iPad will feature an undated storage for both students and standard consumers. The student model comes with 200 GB and standard with 32 GB, plus it does support Apple Pencil. A new series of apps for students is also available on the new iPad also. They are called Schoolwork, and Classroom and will focus on education and progress. Coming in at just $299 for stu

iPad Pro 9.7 vs iPad 2017 9.7

Image
iPad Pro 9.7 vs iPad 2017 9.7 I’ve been wondering what makes an iPad Pro a Pro. I’ve done some homework by reading a few articles and watching a few videos and I’ve come to the conclusion that you may not need to spend the big money on the Pro model. I personally use an iPad 2017 for all of my iPad needs and since I like using a laptop for writing I have never bought a keyboard for any heavy writing on my iPad. Lets get into what I’ve learned so far.  I will start out with the iPad 2017, my choice of a new iPad. This tablet is great at doing tablet things. I can surf the web, check eMail, watch videos, and so much more. Getting into heavier lifting isn’t out of the question either. With just a simple visit to the AppStore you can be editing videos on iMovie and editing photographs with PhotoShop express. You can write articles, school papers, and balance your finances with the Apple Office Suite or download Microsoft Office 365 with just a few touches on the Retina display.

New 2017 iPad (Non-Pro)

Image
New 2017 iPad (Non-Pro) My New iPad 2017 Space Gray I know I wrote a post a few weeks back saying “My iPad Air is Good Enough For Me” but I found such a great deal on a 2017 iPad 9.7 I just couldn’t pass on it. Props to AT&T for making this tablet so affordable. So, here we go down the rabbit hole on a new 2017 iPad, my first impressions, and just what I think about it.  The box is a typical Apple branded box as seen in the picture. Inside we find the initial product (iPad) along with a power adapter and cord. We also find the basic Apple stickers that come with all Apple products. The iPad was wrapped in the usual plastic and of course beautiful upon first glance. I chose the space gray color to match my MacBook 12”.  After the usual first glance and excitement that it finally arrived (via UPS) I began the initial set up. The set up process was easy and fast considering that I needed to use my iCloud for the process and update the initial iOS. The wh

A Visit To The Apple Store

Image
A Visit To The Apple Store  The Power Of The Apple  My First Step Into The Apple Store Waiting On Our Apple Genius Today was a good day. I got to go visit an Apple Store for the first time. It was just as amazing as I had thought it would be. I know to some this may seem a little silly to be so happy about, but still the fact remains I really enjoy Apple products and have always wanted to visit a real Apple Store.  The reason I traveled the two hours to visit a store is another story. I had been noticing a diminishing sound quality in my iPhone 8 since I got it. I really hadn’t thought much about it until recently when I went to AT&T and had one of the store technicians look at it. He assured me that it was in fact not working properly and advised me to call the 1-800-MYIPHONE help line. I did call and didn’t get the answers I was needing with Apple Support over the phone. Now of course they where very polite and did honestly try their best to help me by runni

My iPad Air is Good Enough For Me

Image
My iPad Air is Good Enough For Me To be honest I feel at times like I need to make a purchase, a new iPad. I have been using the iPad Air for a long time it seems. Notice I said iPad Air with no 2 after it. That’s right, I use the original iPad Air for all my tablet needs. I have Microsoft Word downloaded on it along with some games and a Gmail app.  Mostly I use my iPad for web browsing and email, nothing more. I know if I was to go out and buy a brand new iPad Pro I’d still only use it for the same things, so I can’t really justify that type of purchase.  So many articles are on the web just praising the new iPad Pro for everything from more power, to even replacing the laptop as a personal computer. In a way, I can understand how some people would like to use a tablet for their everyday computer. I mean, lets look at this in their eyes for a moment. Light weight, compact, Apple iOS, touch screen, and enough power for everyday use. Sounds like a great deal for me.
